COUNTRY RETREAT

Many of my clients have given me the privilege of working on multiple homes, including when it is time to move or downsize. This particular project was so rewarding because 15 years prior I had worked with my client on a home that they knew would not be their final destination. We kept that in mind during the design process and invested in some great things that could ultimately be repurposed in a new setting. This included reupholstering sofas and chairs that had great bones. ( Yes, it is less expensive to reupholster than to purchase something new, of equal value.) We even refinished polished brass metal pieces to antique brass and gold finishes. So with repainting, reupholstering and refinishing, along with adding a few new pieces, we created a brand new look.

The home is decidedly traditional and the clients were most comfortable in reflecting that in their design as well. One of the new additions was a curved bench for the foyer. Completely custom, we template the curve and had the factory follow it to create the perfect fit! With all the beautiful gardens in view, we used earthy colors of brown and spring green with gold and corals, to bring the countryside indoors. The house was in great shape, and construction-wise, only needed a fresh coat of paint and a change of marble on the living room fireplace. One of my favorite rooms is the dining room where we layered two fabrics on the dining room chairs and added a wonderful vintage side board with a great patina. After all the art was selected and placed, my clients were happy to kick back and relax, as well as entertain in this lovely Country Retreat.
